6 Reasons Why I Won’t Be Streaming Kanye West’s New Album

Kanye West’s new album named after his late mother, Donda, is set to be released on August 6. Last Thursday he had a listening party for the album at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta. It broke Apple’s streaming record with 3.3 million listeners. He’s now staying at the stadium completing the album. While many have seemed to forget about Kanye’s shenanigans from the past, I haven’t. Here are six reasons why I won’t be streaming his new album, Donda…

He disrespects Black people. Kanye West said slavery was a choice. In 2018, he went to the TMZ headquarters, of all places, to say that 400 years of slavery was a choice because slaves outnumbered white people, highlighting his myopic way of thinking. At a rally during his disastrous presidential run, he also said Harriet Tubman never freed any slaves. She just sent them to work for other white people. Back in 2013, he “co-opted” the Confederate flag to wear and sell merchandise emblazoned with it during his Yeezus tour. Kanye says he doesn’t read, so maybe he was unaware of the history.

He especially disrespects Black women. During the same disastrous campaign rally where he said Harriet Tubman didn’t really free any slaves, he berated a young Black girl for correcting him and asking him questions during his rant, I mean speech. He called her A “Sista Soulja” and said she…
