Adam & Eve
--
They gave Eve to Adam.
They, as in the Father,
Son,
and Holy Spirt.
She was to be a helpmate,
wife,
friend,
lover,
companion.
She was made from his rib.
Adam’s rib.
They say she introduced sin into the world.
They as in, all the preachers I heard, not Moses,
because the Good Book makes it clear —
they both partook of the apple.
They both committed the original sin.
They are both equally to blame.
But Eve, Eve gets the bad rep —
and women are known as trouble
forevermore.
Eve never spoke in the Bible,
and neither did Adam.
So who knows how they felt —
besides ashamed.
Yet — thanks to Eve,
we bleed monthly,
and bear children in pain.
What always captivated me,
however,
was the verse that said,
the woman’s desire should be for her husband,
but he should rule over her.
This is not a desire for pleasure,
but a desire for control.
But…
dear Adam wanted control too,
no?
Thus—
Adam and Eve will clash,
inevitably,
as she is his mirror,
after all…
