All Forced Births Are As Traumatic As The House of the Dragon Birth Scene
Last Sunday — House of the Dragon premiered on HBO.
The highly anticipated prequel to Game of Thrones was HBO’s highest premiere ever and costs nearly 20 million dollars to make each episode.
House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen, Daenerys and Jon Snow’s ancestors. It takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
The writers, and also the showrunners of the prequel — Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik — said they would make sure there was less violence against women in the prequel…because they didn’t care about that in Game of Thrones…at all.
Some don’t think they succeeded because of the graphic and brutal, and I do mean brutal, birth scene where a baby was cut out of a woman in a crude attempt at a C-section. Queen Aemma, who couldn’t successfully have a vaginal birth because the baby was breached, wasn’t even aware of what was about to happen to her.
Many were offended by the goriness of the scene, where it literally looked like all the blood from her body leaked out, soaking the white sheets, after she was sliced open while awake and begging for the maesters (doctors) to stop.
Showrunner Miguel Sapochnic said, for anyone who was offended, “we shouldn’t be shying…
