At the 1973 oscars John Wayne had to be held back by security as he tried to rush the stage and physically attack an Indigenous American, Sacheen Littlefeather who made a statement about the racist treatment of Indigenous people in Hollywood movies. In 2003, Roman Polanski received an Oscar for best director for the Pianist. However he wasn’t able to accept it because he’s not allowed back into the US unless he wants to go to prison for raping a 13 year old child. In 1940, actress Hattie McDaniel became the first Black woman to win an Oscar. However she had to enter through the back door and was seated separately from everyone else. A favor had to be called in so she would even be allowed into the building.

That was absolutely not the most shameful thing to ever happen at the Oscars.
