Black Men and Their Trophy Children

People with eyes to notice the world around them see that many, many Black men are colorists. It’s not only Black women who make this observation. Do not think for a second that the entire world doesn’t notice a pattern when it comes to the significant others of Black men who are in the public eye. Black women might be more prone to “call out” this behavior but everyone sees it, even if they don’t find anything wrong with. In fact, there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. People are free to love and choose whomever they want to for whatever reasons they have. According to Merriam-Webster, a colorist is “prejudiced against people with dark skin. specifically : showing favor to light-skinned people over those with darker skin within a racial or ethnic group.” Many Black men desire to mate, or procreate, with a lighter skinned woman, and certainly one whose skin is lighter than his.

Also, this article isn’t meant to shame anyone. Colorists typically have no shame about their “preferences,” and if they do, they deflect these feelings onto the darker skinned Black women they don’t desire by accusing them of not being soft, kind, feminine, good humored, pretty, physically fit, or submissive enough to meet their expectations.
