I think most of us know the history of America. The British came and colonized Turtle Island, eventually wiping out the majority of the indigenous population. They also stole West Africans from their land and enslaved them under brutal and inhumane conditions so they could work for free building what later became the United States of America. These Europeans, who eventually became Americans, claimed it was destiny — what eventually became known as Manifest Destiny when they needed a mythos to expand west.

According to U.S. History,

At the heart of manifest destiny was the pervasive belief in American cultural and racial superiority. Native Americans had long been perceived as inferior, and efforts to “civilize” them had been widespread since the days of John Smith and Miles Standish. The Hispanics who ruled Texas and the lucrative ports of California were also seen as “backward.”

American identity, nationalism, and society are based in the inherent belief in the superiority of white Americans and their “dominion” over other races.

Also, let’s not forget about the slave patrol and its enduring legacy that its the job of white Americans to police and patrol all Black people in public spaces. Hence, the police are called on Black…
