Stop killing us,

we say.

We protest.

We pray.

Nothing changes.

In fact,

more lives are taken.

More hashtags.

More protests.

We rage,

we scream,

we cry,

We become

invigorated.

But this vigor

does not mean

good health and cheer.

We are sad,

broken,

enraged,

but we choose to remain engaged.

Why would you think,

for a second,

that we enjoy this

foot on our collective necks?

We can’t breathe.
