Exactly. It would be best to not have to rely on anyone else outside of family to raise or influence your children—but this is a part of the problem in impoverished communities—when the parents aren’t always available or involved enough. There are so many variables and the vulnerability of inner-city children, specifically, is not discussed enough. Given all the problems they face, this is how I know it’s unfair to expect perfection, or even no misbehavior from them, because that’s why children have parents—to raise them and steer them in the right direction.
