Fill Up

Sitting on my back porch,
listening to the wind chimes tink tink tinkle,
such a pretty and delicate sound,
like diamonds dancing down a wishing well,
I realize I feel the most peace I’ve felt in ages
as the world collapses around me.

I close my eyes and inhale a breath as
deep as the distrust I have in tomorrow’s world,
as I rock back and forth.

When I open my eyes,
I notice a Cat haul truck and my peace is
disrupted like a fish pulled out of water
with a circle hook.

New construction,
more noise, more trees chopped,
a greater global footprint,
in a world that’s already overpopulated,
and burning.

I want to weep,
for the world,
for myself,
for the unknown,
but the tears might never stop flowing,
enough to fill the pond
they’re about to fill up.

consider leaving a coffee tip here :-) ☕️✨
