Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you heard about the recent release of Gypsy Rose Blanchard from prison after serving 8 1/2 years for her involvement in the murder of her mother.
In 2018, her story captured the attention of the nation when she went on trial for plotting the murder of her mother Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.
Attention to the case intensified in 2019 when Hulu released the series, The Act, based on real-life events.
Dee Dee and Gypsy, originally from Louisiana, had moved to Missouri after Hurricane Katrina. In Missouri, the family was given a Habitat for Humanity home.
Blanchard’s 2015 murder in Springfield, Missouri was brutal. She was stabbed seventeen times by Godejohn and her head was almost severed. At some point, she called out for her daughter who was in the nearby bathroom covering her ears.
The case captivated the nation because of Dee Dee and Gypsy’s bizarre life before Dee Dee was murdered.
Gypsy, whose mother claimed she had the mental capacity of a seven-year-old, was capable of teaching herself to read, which led to her online life…
