I Don’t Believe In Sitting In A Bar Alone With A Book

This has been a recent social media debate. Should you go to a bar, alone, with only a book to keep you company? If that’s what you want to do, of course. You can do what you want.

My opinion, however, is that it’s something I wouldn’t do because it doesn’t make sense.

This is the tweet that set off the controversy.

Of course, this person was taken to task for the tone of his tweet, but I get it.

If I wanted to have a drink, alone, I would do it at home. Also, I don’t drink while I read unless it’s tea, coffee, or water.

Well, no, that’s not true. I have eaten meals at restaurants alone. However, I don’t bring a book. I eat my food then leave. I don’t need the company of a book.

The bar, though? The bar is where I draw the line. I think about going to a bar to meet someone. Mind you, I don’t go to bars, but that’s where my mind goes. If not to meet someone, then, to relax after a long day or week. Why would I bring a book with me?
