I don’t feel any sorta way about pregnant women or newly married couples having a shower, or gift registry, to buy things for their new home together or baby. If you’re older, say over 30, I will wonder why you don’t already have things for your house or apartment, but I will buy you a gift anyway. I think women should have baby showers for as many babies as they have, regardless of their financial situation, or their marital status.

So don’t go feeling sorry for me, or whatever is on your mind, and making me a gift registry for other milestones in my life, such as an advanced degree, job promotion, or buying my first home solo. I want to publish a book soon, and I will celebrate. Others won’t have this celebration. I have a birthday coming up in May. I know two people my age who died last year. They won’t celebrate a birthday this year.

Am I saying that life isn’t fair? Maybe. But what I’m really trying to say is that life is different for everyone.

If the gift registry becomes a thing to celebrate occasions outside of weddings and the birth of babies, then so be it. I might…
