I’m an older millennial raised by a boomer and my greatest generation grandmother. This sounds like my childhood. And of course my mother always marveled at how my grandmother was completely different with her and her sister. My grandmother was mostly always at home, so I did come home to snacks and the tv tuned to cartoons. I had quick breakfasts like cereal or pop tarts or I ate breakfast at school. Lots of processed snacks that I microwaved or put in the oven. I was not allowed to use the stove top. But definitely was ALWAYS outside and played outside until the street lights came on and my Granny would not let us come in and out the house. We did have the option to stay in. It was “in or out” and “don’t let the air/heat out.” I marvel at how some of my friends raise their kids knowing good and well they weren’t raised like that. Some changes are good—some not so much…at all.
