I’ve Finally Conquered My Nightmares. Now Let’s Apply it to Fears.
I’ve had nightmares since I was a child, and they often feel real. I know it’s normal to have nightmares, but mine used to leave me shaken. Experts believe we dream two hours per night. The thing is that we don’t remember most of what we dream. Some people believe they don’t dream at all because they don’t remember anything.
I watched Dune this weekend.
After a rocky start, I actually ended up loving the movie, but boy, did it give me a nightmare.
There was sand everywhere. And monsters, like the ugly ones in Dune. I was lost, and I couldn’t find my way out of the sand and sun. I kept running but there was no way I was making it out of there. Alive.
I was terrified.
My heart had to be racing as I slept.
Then, suddenly, there was a voice. It asked me, Rosalyn, is this real?
Suddenly, I became conscious in my dream, and I became conscious that it was a nightmare. So, I told myself to wake up. And I did.
End of nightmare.
I can’t explain how relieved I felt afterwards, but it’s a feeling I’ve experienced before when I tell myself I’m having a nightmare then wake up.
So, how does this apply to fears?
Fears are like nightmares. They’re not real and they can’t harm you. They can only harm you if you let them keep you from living your life.
