Merry Covid Christmas
Today is Christmas. We’re also going into our third year of COVID — globally.
Some people have lost loved ones to COVID or other causes. Others are sick right now — with COVID or other illnesses. Millions of people can’t be with their family members because of restrictions.
Where I’m at right now, it’s 70+ degrees. I’ve heard the recurring sentiment that it doesn’t feel like Christmas this year. This is because the weather is too warm, some people are alone and in isolation, and many families can’t get together like they used to.
What does Christmas even feel like?
I do know the answer to that question. It’s a sensory overload of sights, sounds, feelings, tastes, and smells. Frigid temperatures, glowing lights, Christmas foods, warm hugs, the unwrapping of presents, and dozens of photos with the people you love the most — even when you don’t see them that often.
What’s Christmas without these traditions?
Well, it’s still Christmas.
I don’t want to say that people need to be more mature — but people need to understand we’re living in trying times. Things change. Nothing ever stays the same. What is the point of mourning what’s not happening — especially since it’s only for the moment?
