There’s Always Something To Be Thankful For

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays simply because it is all about family. No gimmicks. No money making schemes. No commercialism or materialism. No hijacking of what the holiday is supposed to stand for.

I’m not talking about the alleged origins of Thanksgiving either, the story we used to celebrate as little children, when Indigenous Americans and colonists celebrated the day together with food.

Thanksgiving is about spending time with the ones you love, eating delicious food, and giving thanks for what you have. This hasn’t changed. It doesn’t even matter if you’re having a Friendsgiving, because some times your friends are your family.

Unless you count the astronomical increase in the price of food, you don’t have to break the bank to celebrate Thanksgiving. There are no presents to buy. There are no Christmas trees or decorations to buy. No Christmas cards to send in the mail and no holiday themed clothing to buy like attire for parties and “ugly Christmas” sweaters. Whatever you pay to travel to see the people you love is worth every penny, especially since some people only see their families once a year on this day.

Yet, there are many who didn’t feel grateful this Thanksgiving.

I get it.
