Trump And The GOP Are Gaslighting Us All
The day after Donald Trump’s defeat, in the midst of his ongoing lawsuits alleging voter, and his refusal to concede, I wondered what pathology could explain his odd behavior and refusal to accept defeat. Was it simply denial or some type of narcissistic delusion? Had he had a break from reality, or was it simply entitlement? There was no way, in my mind, to make sense of someone insisting something to be true, when it was clear it was not — on a national platform at that. Not long after Joe Biden was declared the projected winner, Trump tweeted I won the election and in another tweet, 71,000,000 legal votes. The most EVER for a sitting president. To call me baffled would be an understatement. Forget why Trump was doing this, I wondered how or why this was allowed. Surely someone could could have made him stop, as the rumor was the Secret Service would be the ones to eject him from the White House if, or when, it got to that point.
At that time, I believed it wouldn’t be long before Trump was deserted by the Republican Party. Mike Pence would probably turn first, as a way to save any legitimacy or political career he could possibly have left after this fiasco. Later other prominent members of the GOP, like Mitch McConnell, definitely not Lindsay Graham, but others like senators, governors, members of the Congress, and even local politicians, would turn on Trump.
