Trump At The NABJ Was A Great Idea
I’m glad Trump was invited to the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention. No, it wasn’t a good look for the organization. The optics were horrible, and the backlash was swift and severe. Why would Trump, the white supremacist that he is, be invited to an all Black anything? A barbecue, pool party, kickback, barber shop, or game of spades, it doesn’t matter. No, it wasn’t fair to the journalists, especially the Black female ones he’s disrespected over the years. NABJ members pay annual dues between $40–100. Registration fees for the convention ranged from $150–600. Special events like the Salute to Excellence Awards Gala and the Gospel Brunch cost extra money. None of this includes travel and hotel fees. If I were a member, especially one who’d paid to attend the convention, I would have been upset.
It should be noted that, traditionally, both candidates are invited to the convention every election year.
According to NABJ’s website, Vice President Kamala Harris was invited to attend, but her schedule wouldn’t accommodate it. ***She attended the funeral of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee in Houston instead.***
