I.

New year. New me.
New year. New you.

New year. New fallacies.
New year. New delusions.

New year. New plans.
New year. New intentions.

New thoughts.
New patterns.
New beliefs.

New Year. Same grief.
New Year. Same situation.

New Year. Same habits.
New Year. Same ghosts.

New Year. Same fears.
New Year. Same insecurities.

Same actions.
Same limitations.
Same neuropathways.

New year. New beginnings.

Same old. Same old.

II.

some say the new year doesn’t mean a thing.
it’s just another day, and worse,
we psych ourselves up for disappointment,
by making resolutions we won’t keep.

i, personally, don’t agree.
God created the universe in seven days
giving us the week. He created the moon and sun
on Thursday giving us months and years.
naturally.
