Tyler Perry’s Divorce In The Black Can’t Be Defended

I know I’m late, but I finally got the opportunity to watch Tyler Perry’s latest offering. Divorce in the Black was released on July 11 through Amazon Prime Video. The movie-sphere, like always, went crazy with reactions to his specific & unique style of moviemaking. Like most Perry films, it was solely written and directed by him. However, seven other producers did get credit including lead actress Meagan Good. The thing is that Perry’s movies do get mixed reviews. This should be obvious because Perry’s movies always make money and become number 1 on whatever platform they’re streaming on. They would also top the box office when Perry released them to theaters. Sometimes, this was despite a limited release and without much advertisement.

Divorce in the Black debuted at number 1 on Amazon Prime Video. Almost three weeks later, when I started watching it, it was still sitting in the Top Ten at number 5. That’s not all, though. This week it was announced that Divorce in the Black led to more new subscriptions to Amazon Prime Video than any of their original movies thus far.

As reported by Variety

Tyler Perry‘s latest film “Divorce in the Black” not only drew strong viewership — Nielsen reported that it hit more than 498 million minutes watched in its first four days of availability on Amazon Prime Video…
