Walgreens Locked Away it’s Customers Along With it’s Merchandise
Locking merchandise up behind glass just screams…ghetto. Not the neighborhood, not the clientele, but rather, the store. It says to me this is a store that doesn’t respect its clientele. This is a store that might as well close. This is a store that’s probably racist. This is a store that’s not safe for Black customers.
It’s a hostile shopping environment.
While the media is reporting on the closing of Walgreens pharmacies across the country because customers do not want to buy items like razors, laundry detergent, and deodorant that are locked behind glass, a quick Google search will also show you that in the past three years, at least three customers have been shot and killed by Walgreens employees over allegations of theft. In April 2023, Travonsha Ferguson was shot seven times in a Walgreens parking lot by an employee over shoplifting allegations. She was seven months pregnant prompting an emergency C-section. Her baby was born with a heart defect, and Travonsha died a year later. I remember this, and I wrote about it. In 2023, 24-year-old Banko Brown was confronted by a security guard over stolen items as he was attempting to leave the store. A fight ensued with Brown even being put in a chokehold.
