While I do think she believed she was being a "girl boss" and holding her own, I also believe she was being racist. It was subconscious, but definitely racist. She would not have spoken to a white director of the same caliber in the same way, and felt as comfortable repeating the story. Ellen Pompeo called George Clooney, Tom Hanks, or Meryl Streep a MF would never be a headline.
