Why I Stopped Taking OTC Pain Medicine Regularly

Recently, I’ve become very concerned with my health — my long-term health. What am I doing now, that will negatively or positively affect me in the future?

I’ve been taking over-the-counter pain medications, on a regular basis, for at least a decade.

By regular basis I mean at least two or three times a week.

Right now, my bicep hurts, and I don’t really know why. It’s been this way for almost a week, and my massage gun has not helped.

In the past, I would take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for it, but not now. I’m living with the discomfort.

Growing up, I remember my grandmother seemed to be addicted to Goody’s Powders and Coca-Cola.

Before I stopped, I always had a bottle of ibuprofen and/or acetaminophen in my medicine cabinet, in my purse, and one or two bottles laying around the house in close reach (on my desk and beside the couch). My favorite was the Advil Dual Action that combined acetaminophen and ibuprofen. I was ecstatic when they started stocking it in most stores near me.

Sometimes I would take four ibuprofen at one time. If anyone would look at me with surprise, I would remind them that you can take 12 in one day.
