So, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at tonight’s Academy Awards. I don’t think anybody saw that coming.
It all started with Rock making a joke about Jada’s bald head, which is a result of a medical condition called alopecia. She first opened up about it publicly back in 2018. Any woman can imagine how devastating it would be to lose all your hair, and still not know exactly how it feels.
I don’t think it was this one joke that pushed Smith over the edge though. People have been hard on Jada lately. They’ve been hard on their relationship, but more than anything, they’ve been hard on his wife.
When it was made public that Pinkett-Smith had an affair with R&B singer August Alsina, suddenly everyone became experts on the couple’s relationship. People, especially Black men, opined on how Will should leave Jada. I wondered why though. They were two consenting adults in a relationship of their choosing.
