Will Smith Has Had Enough of People Disrespecting His Wife
Everybody Has A Breaking Point

So, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at tonight’s Academy Awards. I don’t think anybody saw that coming.
It all started with Rock making a joke about Jada’s bald head, which is a result of a medical condition called alopecia. She first opened up about it publicly back in 2018. Any woman can imagine how devastating it would be to lose all your hair, and still not know exactly how it feels.
I don’t think it was this one joke that pushed Smith over the edge though. People have been hard on Jada lately. They’ve been hard on their relationship, but more than anything, they’ve been hard on his wife.
When it was made public that Pinkett-Smith had an affair with R&B singer August Alsina, suddenly everyone became experts on the couple’s relationship. People, especially Black men, opined on how Will should leave Jada. I wondered why though. They were two consenting adults in a relationship of their choosing. Whose business was it what went on in their relationship? It was also clear they had an open relationship. This means they both had relationships outside of the marriage — including Will. But even if Will didn’t also have outside relationships, or if Jada had cheated the good old fashioned way, it was still their business. It was nothing but misogynoir that could explain the public’s treatment of Jada. As a Black woman, demonizing Jada and having a public free-for-all at her expense, was seemingly okay.
Things got out of hand. Will and Jada became the punchline of many people’s jokes. It was insane. The public consensus was that Jada had disrespected Will and he should leave, because clearly he could do better. *insert huge eye roll*
But the thing is, Will loves his wife, Jada.
And he made it clear tonight.
Everyone has a breaking point, and Will Smith is no exception.
