You Don’t Have To Defend Who You Are

This is something that women do a lot. I think it’s because people are always questioning women and the choices they make.

Many women feel a need to defend themselves: their choices, their feelings, their desires, their needs, their lifestyles, their appearance, literally anything you can think of.

The problems with this sort of defensiveness are endless. The most damaging aspect, I believe, is that it pits women against each other.

I really try to understand why stay at home moms are battling working moms. Surely, you have to understand that all mothers will not stay at home. On that same note, all mothers will not work. What would the world look like if everyone were the same?

Why are single people arguing with married people?

Why are the childfree and parents at each other’s throats?

Why does anyone care how someone else lives their life? Seriously what’s it to you?

It takes a hell of a lot of hubris, as a matter of fact, to tell someone how to live their life, or that they should be like you.

How do you know they want to???

Like with most things, I tried to get to the bottom of this defensiveness, this need that some of us have to defend who we are.
