You say words like traumatize and make feel bad? What does that mean to you? Elaborate? American history is ugly and it should be taught as is. I had to teach first grade Black children about separate water fountains and the civil rights movement. In fact, they already knew some things from kindergarten. Do you think they felt some kinda way about that? Yes, they did? So ALL kids need to be taught history exactly as it occurred, on a human and empathetic level, that meets the child’s emotional and educational understanding level. So, yeah, it is ugly, but more than that.
